Born Easter Sunday in 1982, Matthew first became interested in the performing arts when he was five years old and saw Sammy Davis Jr. and Gregory Hines Tap dancing on Sesame Street. Spellbound, he ran to the kitchen to ask his mother if he could learn how to tap dance and get a pair of tap shoes right away!
Matthew Attended School of the Arts High School in San Francisco and in 1996, at the age of 14, his passion for Musical Theatre was fostered when he became involved with San Francisco Young People’s Teen Musical Theatre Company, with whom he performed 15 shows. Since then, he has criss-crossed the Peninsula and even across the nation tirelessly, appearing in Principle, ensemble and featured roles for the likes of Peninsula Center Stage, Foothill Musical Theatre, Theatre Works, American Musical Theatre of San Jose, American Conservatory Theatre, 42nd Street Moon, Theatre on San Pedro Square, Broadway By The Bay, and Count Your Blessings L.P.( World Premier of Irving Berlin’s White Christmas).
While making his mark as a dancer, singer, and actor, Matthew also laid down his first professional vocal recording in 2001, When 42nd Street Moon produced the first-ever cast recording of the early Cole Porter musical Leave It To Me. The CD was made available for sale throughout the United States, and Matthew urges you to pick up a copy- if you can find it!
In addition to theatre, Matthew loves to go to flea markets, garage sales, and estate sales. He shares with his parents a passion for antiques, artifacts, and other historical items, and he collects old records, sheet music, theatre programs, books, and old military items ranging from Civil War to Viet-nam. He has also amassed a collection of old videos and photos of Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Donald O’Connor, Dan Dailey, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Red Skelton, the Marx Brothers, Abbott and Costello, and other “Golden Age” movie and stage stars. Matthew claims a deep respect for old things “They don’t make things like they used to,” he says.
Matthew is proud to say his parents are his best friends. His father, Ralph, is a Real Estate Agent with Century 21 Alliance, and can be found volunteering as an usher for many theatre companies around the San Francisco Bay Area. His mother, Noreen, has what Matthew Calls the hardest job of all, "taking care of all of us and making sure the house runs smoothly!" Matthew also has two brothers- Daniel 21, who for the San Mateo Performing Arts Center and out of the IATSE Local 16 Hall, and Christopher, 17, who Attends Terra Nova High School and sings, dances, acts and plays the drums.
